Delicious Poetry ~ Our Deepest Fear

Our Deepest Fear ~ Marianne Williamson

This is one of my all time favorite poems that resonates deep into my heart.  Finding the courage to “Shine my Light” has changed my life.  We are all brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous.  Let’s let go of our fears and allow our sweet lights to shine!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

 We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Mind-Body Connection

I just completed a Mind-Body life coach training course, taught by Abigail Steidley, the Mind-Body Healthy Life Coach.  Her gentle and compassionate way of teaching was phenomenal, as she led us through the mind-body tools.

Taking this course was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

It taught me that connecting to our bodies is THE WAY out of our food and body war, as well as steer us away from our pain.  It’s learning to dial into radical self compassion and respect for ourselves.

I’m jazzed to share this news with my clients!

It makes me think about my own life.  I’ve lived most of it caring more about my body’s outsides, than the insides!  I could be so critical.  My body was too heavy, too pale, too many freckles, too old; it makes me shake my head in disbelief how I treated it as if it were a necessary nuisance.

Just like so many of my clients, I too had migraine headaches and chronic IC pelvic pain, that I could find no reasons for, nor could the doctors.  I would just pop whatever meds they would give me for the pain and hope for the best.   It was as if my body, mind and soul weren’t even connected. I also realize that not being connected to my body is part of the reason that I lived with disordered eating.  No wonder I had the war with food & my body!  I didn’t want to face my feelings or even look at my body.

What I now know is that it’s okay to go with my gut feelings, actually it’s imperative!  Our bodies not only keep us alive with amazing healing processes, but they inform us when our lives aren’t going in the right direction.

It’s tuning into my intuition, that I now lovingly refer to it as “my GPS system for my life”.

That migraine that comes on, it’s my body sending an SOS that my life isn’t going in the right direction.  When my pelvic pain sneaks back in, it’s a huge signal of major stress!  I notice that my body is signaling me “wrong direction, take another route.  That clues me in that I need to ”relax, feel my feelings, breathe, and be calm.” I know that I am pushing away feelings, so I have to ask “just what is I trying not to feel and why?  Why am I resisting it?”  This has been life changing.

We don’t need to lose twenty pounds or look like the pictures in the magazines to find happiness.  It’s within our reach right now.

It’s in learning to respect and connect to your wonderful body.

God gave us these amazing vessels for a reason.  You see, no one else knows you like you!  It’s just takes looking inside and getting real with you. You have what you need to steer toward whatever it is you are looking for, be it peace with your body, less stress, health, or just to get a break in life.  As we learn to fine tune to that connection, magic happens

Delicious Quote ~ you ARE great

‘Don’t be in a hurry to do something great when what you do everyday is great!” ~ Sharon Fulham

I just read this quote by my sister, Sharon Fulham, from the “Chicken Soup for the Soul’s” Facebook page, and I love it!  Does it speak to you as it does to me?

I tend to try, strive, work, plan, and do all that I can, as quickly as I can, to get to my dream life, so that I will finally have what it takes to do great things.  It’s as if I am biding my time in my life today, so that I can get to my wonderful life tomorrow.

I call it the ”Someday mode.”  It’s discounting what we do now until someday arrives.  Perhaps after we finish college, lose 20 pounds,  find a better job, after the kids grow up, or take just one more class…..and on and on…..

But what happens when we get to “someday”?  It’s as if this amazingly, wonderful dream life will suddenly appear and all will be well in our world.

Really, what about now?  It counts, it matters!

The definition of GREAT is “large; important; huge; immense; wonderful; exciting.” Let those words sink into your soul.

I believe that our lives shine out those qualities now.  It’s what’s in the seemingly small events of our days that greatness comes.  It’s what we do without even thinking about it; in being ourselves, exactly as we are.

What about if we change our ”someday mode” into the ”now mode”?
Slow down.
Take notice.
Look into the eyes of the people in our lives as we are there for them.  They might not always say thank you, but they don’t have to , you know.   Listen to the tone of their voices.
Look at your own eyes, really look.  You are amazing.  You are great and you are making great differences in the world around you.

Do you work like an ant?

The ant is knowing and wise, but he doesn’t know enough to take a vacation ~ Clarence Day

I’m laying on my tummy on a lounge chair watching ants.

No seriously!

They really are fascinating little buggers.

They’re so tiny, yet they carry items bigger than they are.  They put so much effort into their job.  As they walk along, they seem determined to get to wherever it is they’re going and nothing can stop them.  They’re walking over sticks, into pebbles and each other, they are even going around in tiny circles before they get back on course.

How interesting.  As I watch them, I realize that they’re a lot like we humans.  We work extremely hard too.  We get up in the morning and trudge off into our busy days, sometimes non-stop until our heads hit the pillow at night.  I know my own tasks sure do seem endless.  I got my first job at 16 and have kept going ever since.  Here it is already August and I’m realizing just how busy my summer has been.  I know that I’ve been working too hard and needing to rest, thus the reason I’m watching ants.

I can understand why the ants are walking in circles, they aren’t stopping to rest or play.   I don’t see them kicking back and enjoying life.  They’re on a mission to complete a job that will never be completed!  We humans can get like that too, believing that it’s just plain unproductive to rest or play.  It’s no wonder we feel like we are walking in circles, just like the ants.  We put all of our effort into doing, working, and doing some more, trying to finish our tasks.  What if there is a better way?

I like the way Abigail Steidley, the Healthy Life Coach, writes about hard work as she compares ”efforting to non-efforting” ~ efforting is working and trying hard, non-efforting is allowing yourself to rest and not try!  She goes onto explain that when we “non-effort”, and rest, it’s actually easier to solve problems and find our best creativity, among other things.  That is exactly why I am allowing myself to do nothing but watch ants right now.  In non-efforting, I am writing this blog post without even really trying.

I know, it’s a different concept not to work so hard.  I can hear you saying, “but, I have to work for a living”!  That’s true, but even at work we can take care of ourselves and add in some rest.  Step away from the job for a few minutes, take some deep breaths, stretch your body, and let the job go for awhile.  Take time to find little joys, kind of like my ant watching  (well you know what I mean)!

Here’s to non-efforting!
